Micaela Walker is an award winning Scottish artist who from a young age has been fascinated by painting and drawing portraits. Her interest in anatomy and biology lead her to study science at the University of St Andrews, followed by a PhD in London. While working in various different fields Micaela retained a keen interest in art and painting, and so after taking a break from work to raise her family, Micaela started to study oil portraiture full time.
Micaela studied figurative painting at the Leith School of Art, Edinburgh, for two years and was awarded the figurative artist of the year award in 2013. She regularly exhibits work in galleries in Edinburgh and in 2018 was shortlisted for the Scottish Portrait award, with her work being exhibited in Edinburgh and Glasgow. She has also appeared on television in 2017 as part of the Sky portrait artist of the year award series.
In addition to portraiture, Micaela enjoys tackling a diverse range of subject matters such as commissioned animal portraits, wildlife and landscapes. Her main medium is oil, but in recent years she has been experimenting with multi-media techniques including the use of graphite or ink together with oil paint to achieve some unusual and arresting works.
